Nice post! Thee are some of my favorite works from this time period as well. I like your interpretation of the octopus vessels. It is super important to recognize the connection between these cultures and the landscape they relied so heavily upon. The repetitive sea theme can be recognized in a lot of work in this unit and reflects how important the ocean was to them.
jlchamberlainKeymasterYou highlight some really important topics in your post, great job!
jlchamberlainKeymasterI agree with your points here. Nice job explaining your perspective and backing it up with examples. Really through information in your post.
jlchamberlainKeymasterI also agree. Great interpretation of this topic and the discussion.
jlchamberlainKeymasterWonderful post and great examples to back up your statements. I love the conversation on leisure versus war and the affiliated lifestyles.
jlchamberlainKeymasterGreat point to highlight!
jlchamberlainKeymasterGreat reply. Also consider the materials that were being used….were these readily available or under some sort of control by the government or simply limited due to their outlandish cost?
jlchamberlainKeymasterThis is very true, but the pieces that we do have to examine can tell us a lot about this culture, as you pointed out. We may not have a comprehensive understanding but we can gather a lot from what remains. I personally love studying the ceramic vessels of these cultures. They give away so many clues from leisure activities, to nutrition, and even the characteristics of the landscape that proved important to these societies.
jlchamberlainKeymasterGreat points here. There are differences in architecture and art that reflect lifestyles. Nice post!
jlchamberlainKeymasterYes! Great post. Trade and war were a huge part of this time period and culture. This was the way in which materials, skills and information reached other cultures and infiltrated through different societies.
jlchamberlainKeymasterCan you give some examples from the unit?
jlchamberlainKeymasterI agree, can you provide some examples of this? Do we still use structures to portray power? Have any of the historical structures or works been used in modern times to do the same?
jlchamberlainKeymasterRead back through the original discussion post, I think you can elaborate on your post. Also, discuss the topic of modern day use of some of the structures that we studied in this unit. Are they still being used, how so? Do we still use structures to show power and strength or wealth?
jlchamberlainKeymasterCan you expand on this? What about modern day use of structures or monuments? Do we still see these monuments used today or new ones being erected as a sign of power and wealth?
jlchamberlainKeymasterCan you elaborate on this? What about modern day use? Do we as humans still use physical structures as a sign of power or intimidation, how so?
