Hello everyone and welcome to Week 9 of ART F261X.

Please do the following before 11:59pm, Sunday October 30.

1. Go through the material in the second half of the Roman wing: High Imperial Art and the Late Empire.

2. Respond to the discussion questions posted in the Slack channels #week9part1 and #week9part2.   Remember to comment on at least two of your classmate’s responses.

Slack channel #week9part1

  • Propaganda Art: Much of the art that we have seen this semester was made (or later appropriated) for propagandistic purposes. How do you see this coming in to play with Roman art and architecture?

Slack channel #week9part2

  • The Roman Empire ended nearly 2000 years ago but traces of it are all around us today. How do you see the influence of Roman art and culture in contemporary global society?

3. Submit your second Grant Proposal via Canvas.

Call For Proposals

The Doctor Jones Institute of Lost Treasure is asking for proposals to include a new work of art in the museum. The Institute has noticed that there is room in the following wings: Ancient Greece, the Etruscans, and Roman Art. What work (that is not already discussed as part of the class) do you think deserves to be included in the museum halls? Tell us why you think it is so important. How does it fit in with the other works in the wing? How does it expand our understanding of Ancient Greece, the Etruscans, and Roman Art?

Please follow the instructions under the tab Course Documents -> Grant Proposals to submit your entries. All proposals are due by 11:59pm on Sunday, October 30th.  Remember, there are examples on the website. 🙂
